Hello!
This time I show you how to make a pop up twist card.
This card is really easy to make, despite all the steps involved.
And the more you make the easier they get!
Here are the base panels that you will need to make this card:
Twist Mechanism -
10 3/4 inches x 8.5 inches
Basically you take a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper and trim 1/4 of an inch of the long side.
Inner Panels
3 3/4 inches x 5 inches
You will need two of these, they are optional.
They will go inside your card, they can be decorative paper or a plan paper for you to write on.
Folded Panel
2 3/4 inches x 11 inches
This is the center of your card and what you will decorate.
Decorative squares
These are also optional, it really depends on how you want to decorate the inside of your card.
2 1/2 inches Square - Base Layer
You will need 4 of these
2 1/4 inches Square - Top Layer
You will need 4 of these

First lets work on the Twist Mechanism.
Place your 10 3/4 x 5 1/2 paper on your scoreboard with the long edge at the top.
We want to score this at 5 3/8 inch - In half
Then turn the paper to the short edge is at the top.
Fold paper in half, make a mark 1 inch from the fold on the edge of the paper on both ends.
Then on the score lines on each end mark 1 1/4 inches.
Trace a line from the spot on the edge to the spot on the score line.
Now you will cut up the score line and across the traced line.
You should end up with something that looks like a T.
Unfold your paper. we are going to take the left side and fold it onto the top so that both score lines in the middle meet. This will also create a 90 degree angle with the other score line at the bottom.
Then we repeat this for the right side. It is very important to get this fold correct. I use a lighter weight card stock so that I can get it to fold nicely.
Now with the paper open you can kind of see that the sides make arrows
We want to push together and pinch the sides so that it folds up and creates a little house.
Now, if you choose to use the inner panels they need to be trimmed to fit the house shape we now have. Mark each long side at 1 3/4 inches and mark the top short side at 1 7/8 inches. Then using the marks as guides cut off the corners creating your house shape. Now you can adhere these panels on to the twisting mechanism.
Now we can place our twist mechanism into our card base. It is suggested to use a really good strong adhesive for this part, this part of the card really gets a lot of stress when opening and closing the card. I will be using score tape. When placing the twist mechanism in the card there should be a little bit of a border at the bottom and that will make sure that your tip is placed properly.
Lets score the inner folded panel
Place the 2 3/4 x 11 panel on your scoreboard with the long edge at the top.
We want to score at 2 3/4 inches, 5 1/2 inches and 8 1/4 inches
This will get folded into a "W"
Lets decorate this before putting it in the card. This is where you would use your decorative panels.I made base panels and then I cut and colored some images to put on the panels, basically I am decorating the inside of the card instead of the outside. I did cut front panels that go with the card theme. . . you don't want to have a blank front!
Now, lets place the panel into the card. Open your card. On the bottom left tab and the top right tab we will place a piece of score tape. Remove the backing paper on the left side, place the inner folded panel in the middle of the bottom edge, lined up with the edge of the twist mechanism, with the fold on the top, inside the card. Gently close the card making sure that the score tape adheres to the folded panel. Now flip your card over and open it. Remove the backing from the score tape and this time you need to make sure that as you close the card the folded panel is tucked under the tab with the score tape.
Ta-da! All done! Now you can amaze your friends with wondrous pop up twist cards!
