Heavy Metal Thanks

Heavy Metal Thanks

The Monday challenge over as Simon Says Stamp is Heavy Metal. . . . I knew right away that I wanted to use tin foil! I pulled a piece off, doubled it up and ran it through my Cuttlebug in an embossing folder. I love how it looks! I then cut it down and layered it onto my base panels.

Then I used this layering Watercolor Roses stamp set and I did the flowers in grey shades and used a pearl embossing powder on the last layer, I think it kinda makes it look metallic.

I adhered the flowers along the bottom corners and die cut a sentiment and added a few black sequins.

Love

Love

I started by die cutting my base panel out of black card stock. I prepped it for embossing and stamped the word love first. I used a pearl embossing powder so that it was kinda soft, not a start contrast that white embossing would have given. Then I stamped and embossed the roses underneath.

After I embossed my panel it was looking a little like a chalk board so I went over my panel with my black distress ink blender. I didn't add any more ink to the blender, just used what was already in my sponge from the last time I used it. . . It made a big difference.

I colored this using FineTec Iridescent watercolors. . . .
they are so different when you use them on black paper!
They are not what I expected them so be.

Since all my painting on this card is shimmery
I added a few black matte sequins to finish up my card.

I love how this turned out.

Happy Birthday Secret Ingredient

Happy Birthday Secret Ingredient

So this is my attempt to do a CAS card. . . .

I took a small watercolor panel that I had left over and stamped the  cupcake in the middle. I used Zig Clean Color markers and a water brush to color the cupcake and used a glitter Gelly roll pen to put some glitter on the frosting. I used a Gelly roll souffle pen to color the flame.

I stamped the sentiment on the bottom corner and colored in the little heart. Then I decided to make it a birthday card. I stamped half  a birthday sentiment and used a die cut for the happy. I covered that in a grey wink of stella marker.

I put my panel on my base panel at an angle and added a few shimmery clear sequins.

Pop Up Twist Card Technique : Camping Day

Hello!

I decided to do another technique video.

YouTube Link
https://youtu.be/8XiTBY_tTco

This time I show you how to make a pop up twist card.
This card is really easy to make, despite all the steps involved.
And the more you make the easier they get!

Here are the base panels that you will need to make this card:

Twist Mechanism -
10 3/4 inches x 8.5 inches
Basically you take a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper and trim 1/4 of an inch of the long side.

Inner Panels
3 3/4 inches x 5 inches
You will need two of these, they are optional.
They will go inside your card, they can be decorative paper or a plan paper for you to write on.

Folded Panel
2 3/4 inches x 11 inches
This is the center of your card and what you will decorate.

Decorative squares
These are also optional, it really depends on how you want to decorate the inside of your card.
2 1/2 inches Square - Base Layer
You will need 4 of these

2 1/4 inches Square - Top Layer
You will need 4 of these

Other items:
Top Folding Card Base
Large Score board
Scoring tool
Bone Folder
Scissors
Paper Trimmer
 Ruler
Strong Adhesive
Decorative Items

First lets work on the Twist Mechanism.

Place your 10 3/4 x 5 1/2 paper on your scoreboard with the long edge at the top.
We want to score this at 5 3/8 inch - In half

Then turn the paper to the short edge is at the top.
We are going to score at 2 1/4 inches, 4 1/4 inches, and 6 1/4 inches

Fold paper in half, make a mark 1 inch from the fold on the edge of the paper on both ends.
Then on the score lines on each end mark 1 1/4 inches.
Trace a line from the spot on the edge to the spot on the score line.
Now you will cut up the score line and across the traced line.
You should end up with something that looks like a T.

Unfold your paper. we are going to take the left side and fold it onto the top so that both score lines in the middle meet. This will also create a 90 degree angle with the other score line at the bottom.
Then we repeat this for the right side. It is very important to get this fold correct. I use a lighter weight card stock so that I can get it to fold nicely.

Now with the paper open you can kind of see that the sides make arrows

We want to push together and pinch the sides so that it folds up and creates a little house.

Now, if you choose to use the inner panels they need to be trimmed to fit the house shape we now have. Mark each long side at 1 3/4 inches and mark the top short side at 1 7/8 inches. Then using the marks as guides cut off the corners creating your house shape. Now you can adhere these panels on to the twisting mechanism.

Now we can place our twist mechanism into our card base. It is suggested to use a really good strong adhesive for this part, this part of the card really gets a lot of stress when opening and closing the card. I will be using score tape. When placing the twist mechanism in the card there should be a little bit of a border at the bottom and that will make sure that your tip is placed properly.

Lets score the inner folded panel
Place the  2 3/4 x 11 panel on your scoreboard with the long edge at the top.
We want to score at 2 3/4 inches, 5 1/2 inches and 8 1/4 inches
This will get folded into a "W"

Lets decorate this before putting it in the card. This is where you would use your decorative panels.I made base panels and then I cut and colored some images to put on the panels, basically I am decorating the inside of the card instead of the outside. I did cut front panels that go with the card theme. . . you don't want to have a blank front!

Now, lets place the panel into the card. Open your card. On the bottom left tab and the top right tab we will place a piece of score tape. Remove the backing paper on the left side, place the inner folded panel in the middle of the bottom edge, lined up with the edge of the twist mechanism, with the fold on the top, inside the card. Gently close the card making sure that the score tape adheres to the folded panel. Now flip your card over and open it. Remove the backing from the score tape and this time you need to make sure that as you close the card the folded panel is tucked under the tab with the score tape.

Ta-da! All done! Now you can amaze your friends with wondrous pop up twist cards!

Owl Always Love You - Grandparents Day

Owl Always Love You - Grandparents Day

I started this card by stamping two owls, the stump and the grass from the Lawn Fawn Mom + Me set and the hat and glasses with a nose from Lawn Fawn Dad + Me. I colored the images using Prismacolor Colored pencils and gamsol. I love how my grandpa owl looks in his hat and glasses! I also decided that the grandma owl needed a little decor also so I cut a little flower for her hair.

I die cut a base panel from white card stock and sponged on some blue distress ink. I used Lawn Fawn dies to cut my hillside and my clouds. I sponged green distress ink onto my hillside. I stamped my sentiment, also from  Lawn Fawn Mom + Me and  Lawn Fawn Dad + Me, unto my clouds using Lawn Fawn Noble Fir ink. I added a few dragonflies to my scene and finished the card with a few glitter enamel dots.

Make Today An Adventure

Make Today An Adventure

I started this card with my circle cut out. I had previously die cut some grass so I used the negative piece that I had as a stencil and sponged on some Luck Clover Distress Oxide ink. Then I sponged on some Broken China for the sky. I die cut my base panels, using white as a base and a dark blue to help my colored circle pop.

I took two images from Strawberry Jude Stamps Camping with Bear and Bunny, stamped them on watercolor paper and colored them with Zig Clean Color markers and a waterbrush and fussy cut them. I placed them on the circle and then thought that it needed a little bit more so I added this cute snail from Creatures Great and Small set, I love this little guy!! I had some felt like cloud stickers that I added to the card for some texture.

To get this custom sentiment I took two sentiments and stamped them together on a banner die. The banner was a bit long for the card so I trimmed one side and then added the glitter enamel dots to finish off the card.

This card ended up being something completely different than what I started out to make.
